The True Christmas Spirit

Here's what I think would be the typical answers given by the man-in-the-street about the meaning of Christmas:
  • It is a time of giving - to charities, families & friends.
  • It is a time of feasting, holidaying & partying.
  • It is a time to celebrate the traditions of Santa Claus, exchanging gifts, kissing under mistletoes, eating log cakes and carolling.
  • It is a time to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Sadly, all of the above miss the target - the true Christmas spirit has been marred by consumerism and paganism; the Christ of Christmas has been overshadowed by "Christmasism". The following articles expose the errors of modern-day Christmas beliefs & practices:
  1. The Origin of Christmas
  2. Facts of Christmas
  3. The Origin of the word "Christmas"
To me, the true Christmas spirit ought to be one filled with:
  • Great Joy: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
  • Sincere Repentence: From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." (Matthew 4:17)
  • Sacrificial Love: We love, because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)
